Tuesday August 6th (Independence Day) – Tuesday 20th August at the Jam Tree Chelsea and Clapham
Following the success of New Orleans Pop-Up Jambalaya in April, this August the Jam Tree are hosting Jamaica Jamaica, a two week pop-up that is set to bring a slice of the tropical island to London. During the Pop-up both Jam Tree venues will serve up the best in Caribbean food from the kitchen and barbeque with a Reggae soundtrack to match.
Jamaican cuisine is a fusion of flavours, spices and influences from the indigenous islanders, as well as the Spanish, African, Indian and Chinese who have resided there. Vibrant in colour, and delightfully pungent in taste, the fare from this Caribbean island is a melting pot of tastes and textures.
The Jam Tree’s Executive Chef James Browne is Brixton born and bred and having travelled throughout Jamaica, will be bringing back that unique and unforgettable flavour to London. Expect dishes like Curried Goat, Fried Dumplings, Ackee and Salt Fish (The Jamaican National Dish), Fried Plantain, Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken, Grilled Snapper Escoveitch, Stamp and Go, and Jamaican Patties.
Rum is an integral part of Jamaican culture so Pop-Up partners and Jamaican producers Wray & Nephew and Appleton Rum were carefully selected to provide an authentic taste. Expect refreshing cocktails like The Jamaican Mule, The Mary Pickford and a number of bespoke cocktails such as The Usain Bolt and Shabba Ranks to feature.
Nothing defines Jamaica more than Reggae music and it was as far back as the late 1960s that Reggae emerged as a reinterpretation of American rhythm and blues. Reggae has now become hugely popular around the world, due in large part to the international success of artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff. Jamaica, Jamaica will feature Reggae through 5 decades with music consultants Music concierge (www.musicconcierge.co.uk), using their considerable expertise, to painstakingly put together the soundtrack for the whole fortnight.
